Forever Friends
Everyone needs friends. For us, as believers, the best friends are other believers with whom we have a special bond in the Lord. That is the bond that Jonathan and David had. They loved each other, and they pledged that the Lord would be the bond between them and their offspring forever. (I Samuel 20:42) I pray that each of us knows the joy of having this type of friendships. It is one of the greatest blessings of life.
God created friendship. He created each of us with a need for relationships. Of course, we need to have a relationship with Him first. He is the greatest Friend. Then, if we are married, our friendship with our spouse is the closest possible friendship on the earth. However, we all need friends, too. There are some friends that are closer than family. They are loyal through thick and thin. They are the ones we can call upon at any time for anything, and they will respond out of love. How many friends do you have that fall into this category? The more forever friends we have the richer we are. Those friendships enrich our lives in a unique way that is a God-given gift to us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 21-23.
