David's Reputation

People far and wide knew about David, even before he became the second king of Israel. He was famous for his bravery and skill in killing Goliath. The people knew about his other acts of military power. They made a song about him striking down tens of thousands to which they danced joyfully. (I Samuel 29:5) If someone were to ask others about your reputation, what would other people say about you? That is a question for all of us to ponder.

I have had to do 2 funerals in the last 3 days. A funeral is a time to comfort grieving families, but it is also to honor the reputation and legacy of the person who died. For some people it is a challenge to know what to say about them, especially anything spiritually noteworthy. However, for others it is easy. They have left a good reputation behind, and in a way they have preached their own funeral in advance. It all has to do with reputation. What will they be able to say about you at your funeral? Will they have to search for something? Will they know for sure you are in heaven with the Lord, because of your legacy of faith? Now is the time to do something about that before it is forever too late.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 30-31 and II Samuel 1-2.
