The King's Copy of the Law

Moses foresaw a time when the people of Israel would have a king. He knew how important it would be for the king to be faithful to the Lord. Therefore, God showed Moses what to command that the future kings do to ensure their obedience to the law and their fear of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 17:18,19) This is a great way for us to make sure we grow in the Lord and stay faithful as well.

Moses instructed each king to personally write out a copy of the law of God, so he could keep it and read it all the rest of his life. It was to be approved by the priests, so as to ensure it was copied correctly. Then, he was to keep it and read it constantly. This would lead him to fear the Lord by keeping His Word. What if our presidents had to do the same thing today? I think it would make a huge difference in how they think and act.

The same could be said for us. We all need to fear the Lord. That comes from reading all of God's Word continually throughout each day of the year. As we learn it, we do it, and by doing it we learn to fear the Lord in all we do. We learn His Word, so we can obey His Word. The Lord promises to bless those who fear Him and keep His Word. I pray we will all make this a regular daily practice in our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 18-20.
