Widows and Orphans

God has a special place in His heart for widows and orphans. Therefore, we need to care for them fully, and never mistreat them in any way. (Exodus 22:22,23) If we do mistreat them, and they cry out to God, He will be sure to hear their cries and come against us. There is a great spiritual lesson in this command of God that we all need to apply in our lives.

God wants us to care for those who can't take care of themselves. Widows and Orphans were at the top of the list of people who had no way to care for themselves. Not only were widows grieving the loss of their husbands, they had very little means to make a living. Therefore, they could glean the fields and beg. Children who lost their parents were in a similar situation to the widows. Without a father to support the family, they were left on their own. Back then, there were no government agencies to lend aid. It was up to God's people. The same should be true today. We should do whatever we can to take care of fatherless children and widows in our churches and in our communities.

Let's ask God to give us His heart for widows and orphans, so that we truly love them and care for their needs as He would have us to.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 23-25.
