Meeting with God at the Mercy Seat
God explained to Moses how to build every part of the Tabernacle, so he could oversee the construction of the place of worship for Israel in the wilderness. The innermost room was the Holy of Holies. It contained only the Ark of the Covenant, which was a box of gold with a lid on it called the Mercy Seat. Over the ark built into the ends of it were two angels, Cherubim, whose wings were outstretched to touch the wings of the other as they faced each other over the Mercy Seat. It was from over the Mercy Seat and between those two Cherubim that God would speak to Moses about all of His commands for the people. (Exodus 25:22) This was a special privilege for Moses, but today God meets with all of His children and one day we will stand before His Mercy Seat.
God loves to speak to believers. He wants to meet with us and communicate His will to us, even as He did to Moses. He does this as we read His Word, pray, and listen to the Holy Spirit. If we do not get our directions from the Lord, we are in the dark, and we do not know what to do. Therefore, it is very important for us to meet with the Lord daily, preferably in the morning, so we can live out His will daily. Then, one day we, as believers, will stand before Jesus in the Mercy Seat Judgment to give an account for what we did in this life. (Romans 14:10; II Corinthians 5:10) I believe we will be judged on how we obeyed His instructions. It will not have to do with our salvation. It will be all about our works of service for Him. The only works that count will be the ones we did at His direction and with the correct motivation, which is love for Him and others. Therefore, meeting with God each day is essential preparation for the Mercy Seat Meeting we will all have one day.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 26-28.
