The Lord's Contribution
When we bring an offering to the Lord, we need to be mindful of just what we are doing. We are bringing the Lord's contribution to His work. (Exodus 35:21) None of the money we have belongs to us. It is all the Lord's money. He gives it to us, so we can be the managers of His money for His work in this world. Therefore, we should listen to Him and make the contributions that He wants us to make when He stirs our hearts and moves our spirits.
Of all we have the first 10% is special. It all belongs to the Lord, so we are to return it to the Lord as an act of worship on a regular basis. If we fail to do that, we are robbing God. (Malachi 3:8-10) Then, God can bless the rest to meet our needs and more. However, that does not mean that all we do is give 10% out of obligation. God wants us to be cheerful givers of His contribution, and He wants us to listen to Him, so that we give above the tithe when there are special needs. That is what Moses called upon the people of Israel to do to provide the materials for the tent of meeting or tabernacle, for all its service, and the holy garments for the priests. This is how God makes His contribution to all of His work. He puts it in our pocket, so we can give it, as He desires, and He can bless us in a great way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 36-39.
