God Sustains the Earth
Some people are afraid that people are destroying the earth by various kinds of pollution. They fear that the seasons will disappear, and things will get so hot that neither people nor plants will be able to survive. That is not what the Bible teaches at all. God reigns over this world, and He has promised to sustain the earth, until He is ready to destroy it.(Genesis 8:22) We can all relax knowing that God is in control of this earth, not people.
It is true that God gave us the dominion over the earth and the living things He made, so that we are responsible to care for the earth to the best of our ability. That is a God given responsibility which we should take very seriously. However, when God created the world, He did it in such a way that it would continue to function in a way that sustains life, unless there was a supernatural event like the flood of Noah. That flood was God's work. He can bring the world to an end whenever He desires. Until that time, we have his assurance that seedtime and harvest will continue. Cold and heat will continue. We will always have summer and winter, day and night. We can't stop any of those things, only God can. Therefore, we do not need to fear, but to do His will each day, knowing He is watching over this earth.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 10-12.
