Do Not Look Back
Lot, his wife, and daughters had to be rescued from Sodom before the Lord destroyed the cities in the valley which were so corrupt and sinful. They did not want to go, though. The angels had to grab them by the hand and pull them out of that evil city. As they were leaving, they warned them, "Do not look back, or stop anywhere in the valley." However, when they got to their destination, Lot's wife looked back. The Lord turned her into a pillar of salt to teach the rest a lesson we all need to learn. (Genesis 19:17,26) Which way are you looking?
As believers, our destination is heaven to be with the Lord. He snatched us out of this evil world when He saved us by the blood of Jesus. Now, He is taking us on our journey to heaven, and we are to grow to be more like Jesus every day. His will for us is to depend on Him, be filled with the Spirit, and to live above the evil in the world around us. However, if we look back at the world around us and at the life we lived before being saved, it will drag us down. It will get our minds off of the Lord, and we will not become like Jesus. We will not be pleasing to God in how we live. We might as well be a pillar of salt. However, God doesn't make us salt, but He will allow us to choose to look back and even to rebel against Him. The problem is that we will be miserable, and we will live in constant guilt over our sin, because He is a Good Father, who always corrects His children. Don't look back. Keep your eyes on the Lord, and become more like Jesus each day. That is the best life possible in this sinful world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 21-23.
