Diminished by God

I believe that we all have the desire to increase in our importance over time. We want to be better husbands and wives. We want to grow in our career. We want to grow in our significance in the lives of other people around us, our family and friends. Then, if that doesn't happen for some reason, we are disappointed and discouraged about our lives. Our relationship with God has a lot to do with how we will fare in our lives.

The country to Egypt never came to believe in the Lord, even though He allowed it to become the most powerful nation in the world at one point. God's people even trusted in Egypt instead of trusting God at times. However, God brought Egypt down. (Ezekiel 29:15) He proclaimed to Ezekiel that Egypt would be the lowliest of kingdoms. They would never exalt themselves above the nations again. God diminished them, so that they would not rule over nations anymore. That shows us the power of God to diminish nations and people.

God has the ability to bless our life or to diminish our life. He is watching to see how we will live, what we will value. He is waiting to see if we will trust Him and pray for His will to be done in our life, or if we will pursue our own way. He will base his decision on our heart condition. Then, He will either exalt us or diminish us. Of course, He will only exalt us if we truly humble. Then, if we are exalted, we will give Him all of the glory for whatever we do.

The same is basically true for a nation. God is watching to see what we will value. He is waiting to see if we will honor Him as Creator of the universe and follow His laws. He is watching to see if we act in selfish pride or in humble compassion toward our people and others. Then, God makes His decision to either diminish us or exalt us. I wonder what it will be for America? Will we end up being the lowliest of nations, like Egypt? As Christians, we need to do our part to influence our country in the right way.
