A Day of Good News

As we approach Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we are reminded that the gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, He was buried, and Jesus arose the third day. That is the good news from God for all of the people of the world. The story of the four lepers outside the walls of Samaria during the siege of the Arameans, when things had become so bad the people resorted to cannibalism, is a great illustration of this truth.(II Kings 7:9) They decided to surrender to the enemy because that was the only way they would get any food to live. They might kill them, but they had no other choice. However, they came and found the army gone. They had fled in fear leaving everything. At first they ate and took the spoil for themselves. Then, they realized their sin. They were keeping silent in a day of good news, so they went and told the king of Israel. The people were saved from the famine, and food was plentiful.

Today, we are in a day of good news, because we know that Jesus has banished the enemy, Satan. He has died for us and rose again to purchase our pardon from sins. He is the only way we can be saved. Now, anyone who trusts Him in repentance and faith will be saved from eternal death and given all he or she needs to live the abundant life. However, not everyone knows of this good news. Therefore, if we keep silent, we will be guilty of a far worse sin than the four lepers would have committed. We must go and tell the whole world the good news of Jesus Christ.

This Easter is the perfect time to share the gospel with others. Even if we just invite them to church, it is far better than letting them go into eternity without knowing about the good news. Please, take time to go and invite. Be bold, and go and tell. God will bless you for your efforts.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 10-12.
