Caring for the Tabernacle
The tribe of Levi was appointed by God to take care of the tabernacle, where the people went to worship the Lord with their offerings and sacrifices. They were to carry all of it and the furnishings from one place to another, and they were to camp around it when they camped. (Numbers 1:50) That sounds like a lot of work to me, but it was a great privilege and a great service for the Lord and the people of God.
I have to wonder how the Levites executed their duties. Did they do it as a job or out of love for the Lord? Did they complain when they were working, or did they have joy in their service? Did they feel superior to the other tribes, or did they realize they were just like everyone else, except they had a special job to do for the Lord? All of these questions go through my mind, because I see many believers today who do not really have a ministry in God's service. Then, I see others who serve out of duty, but not with a joyful attitude. I even see Christians who complain about serving the Master. We all need to stop and consider our service, because every believer is called to serve the Lord in some capacity. No one is saved to sit or saved to simply attend worship services. We are saved to serve, and we are to do all we do as unto the Lord and with a cheerful heart.
As we consider our service, be sure to remember that one day we will stand before the Lord and give an account of our lives. It is then, we will see how well we have done. I pray that we all will hear "Well Done" from Jesus, but for that to happen we must do the His will for us with the motivation of love for Him and for others.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 2-4.
