Aaron's Rod
After the rebellion of Korah and the company of men who were against Moses and Aaron being leaders of the sons of Israel, God made a miraculous sign to show His support of Aaron and the tribe of Levi. He told Moses to get a rod from each of the tribes and write the name of the tribe upon it. Then, he put them in the place in the tabernacle where he met with the Lord, as the Lord commanded him. When he went back the next day, the rod of Aaron had sprouted with buds, blossoms, and ripe almonds. (Numbers 17:8) Isn't that just like the Lord?
Sometimes people rebel against God and His Word. He has to stand up to the sin of rebellion like He did when He dealt swiftly with Korah and the others. However, He does more than simply punish the rebels. He affirms those whom He has appointed to lead His people. He does not always do it with miracles, but that is one option. He can do it by showing His favor in the life of the leaders, He can bless their leadership, their teaching, or their ministry in a way that shows His hand is upon them. This is why we should not just follow anyone who wants to lead. We need to follow the one who is sent by God to lead our congregation or our group for His glory. The only thing that makes that person unique is the appointment of God to that task. However, as long as God is with Him, He will give Him strength and guidance to lead in God's will.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 18-21.
