Jesus is the Bread of Life
Christians know that without Jesus we can't be saved from our sins and have eternal life. However, I believe many Christians do not understand how Jesus is the Bread of Life for us, so that we do not hunger, and we do not thirst once we believe in Him. (John 6:35) I want to try to explain what He meant when He said this about Himself.
Bread is the symbol of food, and it is especially representative of our daily physical sustenance. In other words, without eating every day, we would be very hunger. The same is true for drinking water. Jesus is the Living Water, and those who trust Him never thirst again, either. This is speaking of spiritual hunger and thirst. We see the truth in this around the world, because all people groups worship something or someone in an effort to quench this hunger and thirst. The truth is that Jesus is the only one who can quench it completely.
The misconception comes in that many believers think that all it takes to be satisfied fully is to trust in Jesus one time to forgive their sins. That is not in line with what He says here. We have to come to Him daily and drink from His fountain daily, once we have a relationship with Him; then we never hunger and thirst. He quenches those needs daily as we pray, read His Word, and spend time with Him. That is precisely why an unhurried time each day is so vital.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 7-9.
