There are No Atheists in Fox Holes
When times are desperate people do not turn to idols. They turn to the Lord of heaven. That is why we say, "There are no atheists in fox holes." If it is a life and death situation, we all know that the only one we can call upon is the Creator of all things. If He does not come to our aid, we are lost. That is what Isaiah said about the Syrians in the day of God's judgment, but it is true for all of us. (Isaiah 17:7,8) Let's consider this truth.
Atheists or idol worshipers believe what they believe out of tradition, or because they want to be able to live however they desire to live with no consequences from God. Their beliefs are just to soothe their consciences when the Holy Spirit convicts them of sin. They are an excuse for living as they do. The problem comes because they know they are deceiving themselves. (Galatians 6:7) When judgment time comes, they sober up real fast and realize they can't continue playing games. Only reality will do at that point. Then, they turn to the Lord, if they still have enough humility to admit their sin and to cry out to God for forgiveness and deliverance. I pray that if you need to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ today, you will stop holding to the ideas you have conceived and turn to reality. Turn your life over to Him and watch His grace pour over you.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 18-20.
