Thirsty for God

Thirst is a very strong and definite drive for all people and animals. God created people and animals with a great need for water. When we get thirsty, we seek out water as something that is necessary, but also very enjoyable. There is nothing like having our thirst quenched by a long drink of cool water. The psalmist used the deer panting after a brook of water to explain how his soul panted after God. (Psalm 42:1) That is a great lesson for us.

It is not enough for us seek God because it as a command. We must understand that we have a thirst that can only be quenched by God, so we long for Him and pant for Him, until we drink deeply of His presence. He is the source of all we need, and we need to know that we can't live a day without Him and be healthy. Therefore, we eagerly seek Him each day, if we know what is best for us.

This blog is all about having an "unhurried time" with God each day. I firmly believe it is vital for us, as believers, to thrive in our lives. How much do you thirst for God when you awake in the morning? Is your heart set on a long drink from the Lord when you rise? If it is a duty instead of a joy, it could be that you are trying to quench your thirst by other means. Remember, you may get partial satisfaction from other things, but those things will keep you from the real thing. Please, don't settle for anything less than seeking the Lord to meet your needs on a daily basis.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 43-45.
