God is Our Refuge and Strength
What we do when we encounter trouble tells a lot about our faith. If we turn to God last after trying everything else we can think of first, then our faith is not what it should be. Instead, as believers, we need to realize the All-Powerful God of the universe is our refuge into which to run for safety, and He is our strength when we need to fight. When we realize that, we will not fear whatever may happen to us or the world around us. (Psalm 46:1,2)
An earthquake is one of the scariest experiences we can have. The psalmist assured us that even if we live during a catastrophic earthquake, when the earth moves so violently that mountains crumble into the sea, we do not need to fear. God's strength is enough to cradle us away from this destructive force or to deliver us through it all.
Cancer is a word none of us wants to hear. Today I prayed with a man who has been battling cancer, but the doctor says the treatments are not working. His wife is determined to care for him, until God heals him or takes him home. Either way, I assured them that God would be the help they need through it all. It was such a blessing to hear the man speak of the great peace he had about this. I believe God is freeing him from fear, as He assures him of His care for him. I pray we all can react to difficult circumstances in this same way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 49-51.
