Early Will I Seek You
David really understood spending time with the Lord early in the morning. (Psalm 63:1) This was because of his intense personal relationship with God. The two are very entwined. When we love God that much,we will want to begin our day by seeking Him. Notice just what David says here.
O God, You are my God. David did not just believe in the God of the universe. The God of the universe was "his God." This shows us that David had an encounter with God in which he came to know Him, and that relationship grew stronger every day that he sought out the Lord and followed Him.
David told the Lord or promised the Lord that he would seek Him early. This has several applications. David would spend time with Him, seeking Him, early in the morning. Also, he sought the Lord early in every need he faced, instead of trying to solve the problem without seeking the Lord. An additional meaning could be that David did not put off seeking the Lord. It was a priority every day, so nothing came before seeking the Lord. This is how we should seek the Lord, as well. God honors that type of commitment to seeking Him.
Finally, David lived in a dry land, where there was no water or very little water. Therefore, he knew about being thirsty. David knew this world was a dry place with no water. Therefore, he did not long for the world, but he longed for the Lord, because He was the only One who could quench his spiritual thirst.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalm 66-68.
