They Dealt Faithfully
People of integrity are harder and harder to find today. It seem that a lot of people do not do what they tell you they are going to do. Many people are very lax in their responsibilities, unless someone is watching over them all of the time. All of this shows a lack of character, which leads to a shortage of integrity. King Jehoash ran into the same thing when he was trying to repair the temple. Finally, he was able to hire some workmen with integrity. The Bible tells us that the king did not even require an account from them for the money they received to do the work, because "they dealt faithfully." (II Kings 12:15) That is a wonderful testimony, which ought to be said about every believer.
People are not born with character that produces integrity and faithfulness. We are all born with a sinful nature, and we begin to sin willfully at a young age. However, when we come to know the Lord, we repent of our sins, so that we tell God that we do not want to sin any more. Then, we begin to follow the Holy Spirit, as we are conformed to the image of Christ, our Lord. This process builds character. We begin to act with integrity, because we want everything we do to be pleasing to God. Once we get to that point, we will deal faithfully with everyone. We will be known as a person who can be trusted and upon whom others can depend to do the right thing. That is one of the best things that can be said about any person.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 14-17.
