Speak, for Your Servant Hears.
When Samuel was young, God came to him one evening and called his name. He thought it was Eli calling, but it wasn't. After 3 times, Eli instructed the young man that it was the Lord, so he should respond by saying, "Speak, for your servant hears." (I Samuel 3:10) Samuel obeyed, God spoke to him, and from that time he was a prophet in Israel. When was the last time God spoke to you?
If we are to hear God speak, we must do what Samuel did, and we must do it every day. We must listen for Him to speak with expectation. God is good at speaking to His children. Often, the problem is that we are not listening. If we do not think He will speak, and we do not expect it, we can miss what He is saying. Also, we must have the heart of a servant, so that God knows we will do what He says. Why should God speak to us, if we will resist His message or ignore His directions? When we humble ourselves before Him, He will speak clearly. Finally, we must wait in the quiet place before the Lord, read His Word, and pray. When we get quiet, we can hear much better. However, God can speak to us in the loudest and busiest places of life, too. If we have heard His voice often in the quiet places, we will be much more in tune to it, when it comes in the noisy times of life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 6-8.
