Forever Friends

How many forever friends do you have? One of the greatest blessings in life is to have Christian friends that are committed to you for life. Jonathan, King Saul's son, and David had that kind of friendship. (I Samuel 20:42)  We can learn from their example of friendship.

Jonathan and David had a great friendship, because it was the Lord who was between them to connect them. They also asked God to be between their descendants forever. That is a wonderful covenant of friendship between two believers and their families. What if we practiced having this kind of commitment to friendship today with our Christian friends?

Also, Jonathan was committed to David, even though he knew that David would ascend to the throne after his father, Saul, instead of Jonathan, himself, being king. That is an unselfish relationship. We ought to care more for our friends than we do for ourselves in a truly selfless way. Isn't that how Jesus loves us? He gave Himself for us that we might have life eternal.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 22-25.
