Stand Before God for the People
Moses was a great leader for the Israelites, but he had a lot to learn. His father-in-law, Jethro, was sent by God to teach him some valuable lessons. One lesson was on delegating tasks so he and the people would not get burned out. Another lesson was about intercessory prayer. (Exodus 18:19) We all need to learn this lesson, because we are all leaders in some way.
God wants us to minister to people, so that we can help meet their needs using the gifts God has given us. However, there is a limit to the number of people we can help, and there is a limit to how much we can help them. That is why we must make the main thing that we do for them to pray for them. We need to stand before the Lord for those people whom God has brought under our care. That means fathers and mothers praying for their children. Teachers praying for the students. Pastors praying for their people. We can bring their needs and difficult is to the One who can solve every problem and meet every need completely.
As a pastor, my greatest difficulty is not being able to visit everyone all of the time or to witness to every person I know who needs the Lord or to disciple every person one on one. I have learned the lesson Moses learned, so now I stand before God for all of them to bring their difficulties to Him. It is amazing what He will do when we are faithful to pray and to serve in His way and power.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 20-23.
