Of Such is the Kingdom of Heaven

The disciples of Jesus had times when they were very disoriented to the truth. They were not able to understand things and see things the way Jesus did. Therefore, they made some huge mistakes, and they told some people the wrong thing. That is what happened when people brought children to Jesus for Him to lay hands on them and pray. The disciples were trying to send them away as being unimportant to Jesus and His ministry. Jesus set them straight by explaining they were to bring the children to Him, because the Kingdom of Heaven was made up of people who were like little children. (Matthew 19:13,14) I know Jesus would tell us the same thing today.

We need to remember that Jesus was commanding His disciples to bring the children to Him. In the English language it does not sound like the command it is in the original language. When we see this, we realize the importance of children's ministry. Their hearts are innocent and pliable, so that they can come to Jesus and trust Him as Lord and Savior, even if they do not understand everything. We must do all we can to share the gospel with as many children as possible.

Then, we need to examine our own hearts. Do we have soft pliable hearts that trust Jesus with a simple faith? If not, we will not be a part of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus made that truth plain here. Heaven is going to be inhabited by people who came to Jesus like a child and fully trusted Him with all of their lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 20-23.
