The Plumb Line of God
The prophet Amos had a vision in which He saw the Lord holding a plumb line. It was a lesson from the Lord to the people of Israel. (Amos 7:8) God was giving them a warning that He would no longer pass by when He saw their sins. The same is true for us, so we need this lesson, too.
A plumb line is a string with a weight on the end. A carpenter can hold the plumb line up next to a wall or a board to see if it is square. If it is not straight, He can fix it. However, sometimes, the wall or the door had to be torn down to fix it. That is what happened to Israel, when God destroyed Samaria and took them into exile in Assyria. He did that, so they could return to Him, and they could become straight by following His laws. His laws are the plumb line to show where we are out of line.
God is holding the plumb line up to our lives today. When He sees we are not straight according to His Word, He calls us to conform, or He will have to redo us. It is easy enough to give into the Lord, if we forsake our pride, but it is very hard if we have to endure the demolition of God to rebuild us. Please, listen to the Lord and get straight with His plumb line.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Amos 8-9 and Obadiah.
