Hearing the Word of God but Not Doing it

An old saying goes like this, "the pathway to Hell is paved with good intentions." We have a hard time putting into action what we know we need to do. It may be hard, but that is what life is all about. Ezekiel told the people in his day that God was not pleased because they heard the word of the Lord, but they did not do it. (Ezekiel 33:31) I pray we will not sin in this way.

The reason people hear, but they do not do the word of the Lord, is that their hearts pursue their own gain. They may say they love the Lord with their mouths, but it is not really love. Love puts the other person first. Love tends to the wants and desires of the other person. Therefore, when we hear, but we do not do God's Word, we do not really love God. We are fooling ourselves.

If this is the case in your life, change it today. Decide to love the Lord. Love is a decision, after all, not a feeling. Decide to order your life to  do God's Word and His will. It will be the best decision you have made, since deciding to trust Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 36-38.
