Let Us Glory in Knowing the Lord

There are many things in life that we can glory in or boast about. If we are smart, we can brag about that. If we are strong, we can glory in our strength. If we are rich, we can make a big deal about our wealth. However, Jeremiah told us that all of these things are the wrong things to glory in. We should glory in knowing the Lord and understanding the things of the Lord. (Jeremiah 9:23,24) That is what God delights in, so it should be what we delight in, too.

Our intelligence is given to us by the Lord, as is our strength and our riches. We should not try to take any credit for those things, but we should give Him thanks for what He has supplied for us. When it comes to understanding the Lord and knowing the Lord, we do play a part in that. God has to begin the process by revealing Himself to us, but we must respond in faith. Then, we come to know the Lord, and the Spirit reveals the things of God to us, so we can understand. This is a great accomplishment. It is something to glory in, because only a few people come to know the Lord. (Matthew 7:13,14) Also, it is a great achievement to understand the things of the Lord, because His thoughts and His ways are not our ways. (Isaiah 55:8,9) Anyone can come to know the Lord and understand Him, but it is very rare to find a person who knows Him and His ways well.

The Lord delights in these things, because He exercises lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness. In other words, He desires to have a relationship with each of us, so that we are faithful to Him, and He shows His faithfulness to us, while showing us what is right and wrong in life, so that we can have a wonderful, abundant life, When we love Him back, after He loves us, it is a joy to Him. That is why He desires for us to put a premium on understanding and knowing Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 10-12.
