Resisting Anger
The Bible is full of warnings about anger and stories of people who were hurt because of their anger. Solomon knew this well, too. (Ecclesiastes 7:9) That is why the Lord inspired him to give us some wisdom about how to handle anger.
The admonition is clear "Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry." Our spirit is our mind, will, and emotions. We can be quick to jump to conclusions with our mind and to get angry quickly because of that. We can get angry quickly over decisions we have made or those of others. Our emotions can explode when we hasten to get angry because of our feelings. We must stop all three from happening by being slow in our spirit to get angry. Choose anger as the last resort, not the first option. It is very possible, especially with God's help.
We must remind ourselves that "anger rests in the bosom of fools." Do you want to act foolishly? Just let your self get angry in a hurry, and you will act like a fool. You will say things you should not say, and have a terrible attitude, even while doing things that you should not do. If we do not want this foolishness to happen to us, we must always know that anger is not for us, but for fools. That is why God inspired Paul to tell us to put away all anger. (Ephesians 4:31,32) Yes, I know there is a righteous anger, but that is anger at sin. We have a hard time separating the sin and the sinner, so it is always best for us to put away anger and leave it up to God.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 10-12 and Song of Solomon 1.
