God's Work Is Eternal
Whatever God does is eternal. Compare that with our works which are always temporary. Nothing we do is perfectly done. However, when God does something, nothing can be added to it or taken from it. (Ecclesiastes 3:14) We need to stop and consider this truth from the Lord given to us through Solomon's pen.
People strive to accomplish great and lasting accomplishments. Some last longer than others, but none are going to last for eternity. However, when we encounter God, and He does a work in our lives or in our world, it is forever. God does things with eternal value and significance. Also, God's works are complete. No one can add to them or subtract from them, because He does them in His complete wisdom and knowledge of all things. We can do nothing that rises to that level of completeness.
Why does God show us His works and how they dwarf our works? He wants us to fear Him, to respect His wisdom and power. He wants us to cease trying to accomplish our own works, and to join with Him in His works. Then, we can be a small part in seeing something done that is eternal and complete. When God saves a soul, it is eternal, and we can have a part in that miracle. When God saves a marriage, it is done perfectly well, and we can be used by God as a part of that. When we join God, we do the most meaningful things that a human being can ever do, not when we carry out our own works.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 4-6.
