What is Better than Life?
If someone asked you, "What is better than life?," what would you say? I am quite sure that some people would answer "nothing," if they were completely honest. However, this is a very serious question, because if nothing is better than life, we better live to the fullest while we have life. Fortunately, David told us what is better than life.(Psalm 63:3) It would do us all good to think about what he said.
The answer is not Jesus, as wonderful as He is. The answer is not God, our Creator, or the Holy Spirit, who is the Comforter we all need. The answer is not Heaven, even though it has streets of gold, and there is no sin at all. God's lovingkindness is better than life. This is the Hebrew word that has many shades of meaning, but whichever one or ones we choose are better than life. God's covenant faithfulness is better than life because it lasts forever; once we are saved, we are always saved. God's mercy is better than life, because no matter what sin we have committed, and all of us have sinned many times, God's mercy is there for us. God's faithfulness is so much better than life, because we can always count on God, but nothing in life is a sure thing. Yes, God's lovingkindness is better than life, so let all of the redeemed praise Him with our lips and our lives.
