The Former Things Have Passed Away
2014 is coming to an end today. We can't go back and relive anything in 2014. In that sense those "former things" have passed away. We stand on the brink of 2015, and new things are coming, but what will 2015 be like? Will it bring happiness or pain and sorrow? No one knows. However, one thing we do know is that a day is coming when all the former things will pass away, and for those who know the Lord Jesus, there will be no more tears, death, sorrow, crying, or pain.(Revelation 21:4) It seems to me that today is a day to think about 2015, but even more, it is a day to consider eternity.
What we do will effect our lives in 2015. However, there are some things over which we have no control. God is in control, and if He allows bad things and pain to come, He is there to see us through with His peace and strength. When we make right choices, He is there to bless us and reward us. Therefore, 2015 will be good for those who know the Lord and lean on Him all through the year. It should be a year of bearing fruit for Him and being faithful to do His will.
It will be easier to live in 2015 if we remember the end result of knowing Christ. One day, we will be in the perfection of heaven. The former things will be gone. There will be no more pain, sadness, and death. All will be well for eternity, as we live in the very presence of the Lord. When we see that goal, it is much easier to trust the Lord and to continue to be faithful through the trials and problems of this present time. I pray that you know Christ and your eternity is secure in Him, so that you can have a wonderful 2015 trusting Him and looking forward to heaven.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Genesis 1-3.
