A Warning About This World
It is so easy to fall into Satan's trap that he sets for us all. He uses the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life to lead us away from our love for God.(I John 2:15,16) We must never forget that we can't love the world and the Lord at the same time. Therefore, we must do whatever it takes to remove the love of the world from our lives and concentrate on loving the Lord.
The lust of the flesh is anything that would make us feel good. Of course, the flesh is drawn to things that are temporary pleasures with a damaging effect on us in the end. This could be anything from eating too much to gambling and sexual addiction. It might feel good at first, but the results are disastrous. The worst result is that we are drawn away from the love of God by our sin.
The lust of the eyes is anything that attracts us by how it looks. Sometimes these things lead us to the lust of the flesh, like the effects of pornography. However, sometimes, it is just buying too much stuff because we like how it looks, from clothes to a car or a house. This leads to all kinds of problems such as debt, but it also takes us away from our love of God.
Finally, the pride of life is a basic source of all sins. If we are proud, we think we know better than God, so we do whatever we want. If we act in pride, we will not love the Lord. We may try to use religion to meet our needs, but we won't surrender to Christ as Lord and love Him fully.
I pray this Christmas and all year long, we will love the Lord completely, and stay away from the love of this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I John 4-5 and II John.
