Raising Children
One of the most important responsibilities in the world is raising children. It is far more important than anything anyone does for money. If we fail to raise our children well, our society falls apart. Also, if our children are not raised to come to know the Lord in genuine salvation, Christianity will cease to be a force in the world. If we don;t reach our own kids, we probably won't reach others for the Lord, either. Most of the time, the major part of child rearing is carried out by the mother. She spends many hours with her children, so that she is a dominant force in their lives. The father plays a huge role, as well, especially if the mother is absent. Sometimes, even another relative has to step in when both parents are out of the picture, like Mordecai did for Esther.(Esther 2:7) Anyone who raises children should see it as a sacred trust. God has given them the child to raise as God would have them to be raised. We must take it very seriously.
I believe our society in America is failing in raising children well today, because people are too focused on pleasure and activities. To raise children well, we must take the time to talk with them and to mold their character by positive instruction and by punishment of rebellious disobedience. We can't do that, and we won't do that when we are spending our time with pleasure or simply doing activities. We can even allow our job to interfere, too. It is too important of a task to let anything interfere. That is why we honor mothers today on Mothers' Day. They have put in the hours lovingly investing their lives in their children. Hopefully, they have laid the foundation of faith in Jesus and Christian character, so that the child follows the Lord and grows in Him. When that happens, all of the work is worth the outcome.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 3-5.
