Preparing Your Heart to Seek the Lord
Not very many people spend time with the Lord every day. Some people read their Bible every day, and some people have a special time of prayer every day. However, I believe that we can read the Bible and pray, but we can still miss what God has for us. That will happen if we do not prepare our hearts to seek the Lord. This is how Rehoboam ended up doing evil in his life.(II Chronicles 12:14)
Our hearts can deceive us. The heart is sinful unless it is set on the Lord and in tune with Him. Therefore, if we just go with what our heart tells us to do, we will miss God's will. We can read the Bible and pray, but since our heart is not right with the Lord, we do not see what He wants us to see, and we do not pray what He wants us to pray. We must prepare our hearts to seek the Lord by asking the Holy Spirit to convict us of sins in our lives. Then, we confess those sins and ask the Spirit to shine the truth into our hearts. We open ourselves up to what God wants to say, not just what we want to hear at that time. Then, when we read the Word and pray, we are able to discern what God is saying and what we should be praying. It is not complicated, but it takes time and honesty with the Lord and with ourselves.
I pray that we all will prepare our hearts to seek the Lord each day, so we will really know His will and do His will for us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 13-15.
