The Worth of a Leader

Some people are leaders, and some are followers. Both are valuable, but a leader is worth more, because without leaders very little is accomplished. David was a leader. The people assured him that he was worth ten thousand of them, so he should stay back in the city in safety, as they went to battle.(II Samuel 18:3) Let's consider the worth of a leader.

A leader is a person of integrity with a vision of what needs to be done to be a success. Leaders know what to do to accomplish the goal, either because they have great discernment in that area, or they have great experience that has led them to know what to do. Leaders are risk takers, but they take measured risks for the purpose of seeing great rewards. People follow leaders because they see their worth, because of what they can accomplish. Leaders get things done. They do not make excuses. They fail sometimes, but they are not defeated. They learn from failure and go on to accomplish even more.

The Lord gives us leaders, and we need to honor their worth. We need to follow the leaders He gives us, so that we can see His will done. It does not diminish the role of the follower, but it enhances our efforts as followers to have great leaders. When leaders follow the Lord, then the followers are following the Lord, too. That makes a wonderful combination for His glory and for the good of His kingdom.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 22-24.
