Strengthening Yourself in the Lord
Some people are dependent on other human beings for their strength. They thrive on encouragement and sympathy from others when things are not going well. It is fine to gain strength from others in those times, but it is far less effective than strengthening ourselves in the Lord. In reality, we can't count on others to respond to our needs every time, and the strength they give is limited. God is always there for us, and His supply of power is infinite. David knew that, so when the people spoke of stoning him because of their grief, he strengthened himself in the Lord his God.(I Samuel 30:6) Then, God supplied all he needed.
When we lack strength, we can strengthen ourselves in the Lord by beginning to praise Him. God inhabits the praises of His people. He comes to us in power when we praise Him, and we see that He can do whatever we need. We humble ourselves under His mighty right hand. We do not fight, but we put our right hand into His left hand, so we stay close to Him, and He fights for us. We present our need to Him, and He gives us the peace that passes understanding. We put on the whole armor of God, which is everything He has given us for living the Christian life and defeating Satan. Once we do that in prayer, and we know what He wants us to do, we proceed in the power of the Lord, trusting Him for deliverance. Then, we are truly strong in the Lord and the power of His might.
Let me give you one more piece of advice. We should not wait for a problem to strengthen ourselves in the Lord, but we should do it every morning. It is His design for all of His children, and it will radically transform your life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 2-4.
