Passionate Prayer

God answered Hannah's prayer. She was so sorrowful that no words came out, but she poured out her soul to God. Eli saw her, and he thought she was drunk.(I Samuel 1:15) This example of passionate prayer leads us to ask ourselves an important question. Do we pray passionately, pouring out our soul to the Lord? If not, we should.

Prayer is the desire of the heart, much more than it is the words we say. When we pour out our soul to God, we tell Him what we have in our minds, what we feel with our emotions, and what we have decided to do with our will. When God hears all of that, and He knows we are praying sincerely, He is much more inclined to hear our prayers and answer our prayers, because He knows we mean what we say. However, He could still tell us "no," if we are not praying according to His will. He answers us according to His will in a way that fulfills what we need, even if He says no. That is the only truly loving response.

I pray that we are passionate in our prayers for our needs and the needs of others. I pray that we are passionate in our praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, as well as our confession of sins. Remember, God sees the heart, and He responds to a person who pours out his or her soul to Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 3-6.
