Taking God for Granted

Nadab and Abihu were killed instantly when they failed to regard God as holy and glorify Him before all of the people.(Leviticus 10:2,3) This seems very severe to us, but stop to think about what God did. If He allowed the priests to take Him and His laws for granted, it would spread to all of the people. He had to act swiftly to stop this sin, and He did.

I know God does not strike us dead every time we take Him for granted, but it does hurt Him, and it hurts other people. How many times have we led others astray because we did not regard God as holy and pure? How many people have seen us profane God, instead of glorifying Him? One day we will stand before God, and He will show us each one. Their blood will be on our hands if they never trusted Christ, and we contributed to their rejection. It will be much worse that being struck all at once by fire. We will see how much we have disappointed God, and it will break our hearts.

I pray that we will never take God for granted. May we lift Him up as holy, righteous, and pure, so everyone will glorify Him. Then, we can see what God will do in their hearts to draw them to Himself.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 13-16.
