Desire the Word of God!

If there is one single thing that leads to growth as a Christian more than anything else, it is eagerly devouring the Bible. I am not talking about reading a little dutifully each day. That will produce few results. However, if we desire the Word of God like a newborn baby desires milk, and we consume it joyfully for the purpose of growing, we will grow by leaps and bounds.(I Peter 2:2) Let me explain.

Our attitude toward the Word of God makes a huge difference. If it is a joy to read it, we will see all that God wants to say to us, and we will obey it. The key is that we can't simply read it for knowledge. No one grows as a Christian by knowledge alone. Our growth comes by obedience to God and His Word. That means we must know the Word before we can do it, so knowledge is very important. However, that is just the first step, like a baby drinking milk. Then, the milk must be digested and taken into the body by putting it to work to grow the body. If it is not digested, and it does not reach the cells there is no growth. For the Christian, if there is no application of what we have learned, there is no growth.

I pray that we all can see how desire plays a vital role. We must desire the Word of God, so that we can do it and grow. It is amazing to see what happens when we have that attitude followed by obedience.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 3-5.
