Balance in Your Ministry
You have a ministry, if you are a follower of Christ. The ministry is not just for ordained people. That is not Biblical, at all. Every believer is to be led by the Spirit to complete the ministry the Lord gives us to do 24/7. We must make sure we keep the right balance in our ministry.(I Thessalonians 5:14) It is easy to just do what we like to do and ignore the more unpleasant tasks. God can't use us greatly unless we are willing to do whatever He wants us to do.
Paul gave a lot of commands from the Lord at the end of his first letter to the Thessalonian church. Each one is very important, but focus on verse 14 for a moment. We are exhorted to warn the unruly believers. Someone has to help those who start to get off track spiritually. If we love them, we will correct them by giving a warning and instruction. Then, someone must comfort those who are prone to fainting spiritually. We must urge them to keep going. We must uphold those who are weak spiritually. In the process we are to be patient with everyone to whom we minister. Get the picture.
Now, think about it. Who do you know who is being unruly? Who do you know who needs comfort? Who do you know who is weak? OK, make plans to minister to them. It is not a suggestion. It is not optional. It is a command. That is how the Body of Christ is to work. Each member must help with the ministry for the Body to function in a healthy way. You will see the smile of God when you take your ministry seriously, and when it is a balanced ministry of all He leads you to do. The church will be blessed, as well.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Thessalonians 2-3 and I Timothy 1.
