New Life
Christianity is having a new life. If you have ever been close to a new baby being born, you can relate well to what Jesus said in John 3:5-7. The water breaks, and the baby comes into the world, a brand new life. Well, that has to happen twice for us to enter the kingdom of God. Once we are born of water, then, we must be born of the Holy Spirit. The result is the same each time. There is new life!
Some people think of Christianity as a philosophy. It is not. Others think of it as a religion. It is not. That is just the point Jesus was making to the Jewish leader, Nicodemus, in John 3. It is being born again, so that we have the Spirit living in us to produce a new person, and thus, a new life. We must not be surprised about this. It is God's way of taking away the old sinful life and giving us the opportunity to live a holy life, to be like Jesus. Without a new life we could never be like Jesus. That is the goal, not just being forgiven or having eternal life.(Romans 8:29)
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 4-7.
