Don't Be A Fool

The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about being a fool or acting foolishly. I believe we need to heed these warnings. A fool is a person who doesn't trust the Lord and/or live by God's wisdom. Proverbs 18:2 gives us one very important insight into why a fool is a fool.

It is fine to express ourselves. We have freedom of speech in the USA. That is a blessing from God. Everyone has the right to an opinion on any subject. However, we need to be careful. Do we delight in expressing our heart on a matter, or do we delight in having true understanding of that matter? There is a huge difference. A fool just wants to say what is on his or her heart. Well, if it is wrong, they haven't contributed anything worthwhile to the conversation, and they are not helping matters, just complicating things.

When all we want to do is tell people what we think, sometimes, we stop listening to what they are saying to us. We stop asking questions, and we stop asking God to show us His truth. That is very foolish. We must be quick to hear and slow to speak, if we are really going to have understanding. Then, we can express wisdom from our hearts, not just our opinion.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 21-23.
