Our Father's Righteousness
There will be a lot said today about the righteousness of our earthly fathers, because it is Fathers' Day. All of that is fine because we are to express our praise and thanks for our fathers, even when it is not Fathers' Day. They are very important to us and to our families. However, without the Lord none of us can do anything, and we do not have any righteousness apart from Him, so we ought to spend some time acknowledging His power and His righteousness today, as well.(Psalm 71:16)
Think about it. Our flesh is weak, but in Him we can do all things. We need to go and do all we do in the strength of the Lord. Our righteousness is like filthy rags, but He is perfectly righteous and holy. When Christ saves us, we receive His righteousness, and if we do anything right it is because of His leadership and power. Therefore, we need to give Him the credit for being able to be a father who is worthy of any mention at all. Let's speak of His righteousness today and not call attention to ourselves, so people get the right perspective on Fathers' Day.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 72-74.
