Committing the Sin of Unfaithfulness
I do not think that we, as believers, understand the severity of our unfaithfulness to God. King Saul died for committing the sin of unfaithfulness to God.(I Chronicles 10:13) Often, we think of it as a lack of commitment to the Lord, so that we fail to do the right thing. It could be that we just think that we made a bad choice, or we made a mistake. All unfaithfulness is sin. We need to call it what it is, and we need to confess each act of unfaithfulness, so God can cleanse it, and we can trust Him the next time.
Saul failed to keep the word of the Lord by offering sacrifices himself and for allowing the people to save the best of the livestock for themselves. Both of these were grave sins of unfaithfulness, because he had a clear word from the Lord. We have a very sure word from the Lord, the Bible. How often do we fail to keep the word of the Lord to us? It is a grievous sin when we do that in any way.
Then, Saul consulted a medium, a witch, since God would not answer his pleas for guidance. He did this knowing it was wrong. He was the king who expelled all of the mediums from Israel. However, he committed the sin of unfaithfulness, because he wanted guidance from a source other than God. Some Christians do the same thing. They read their horoscopes or other occultic sources to gain information. This is serious unfaithfulness to God.
Please, don't take unfaithfulness lightly. It got Saul killed, and it causes believers all sorts of problems. Simply believe the Lord, and be faithful to do everything His Word says to us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 11-13.
