The Ministry of Music

Music ministers to us as it draws us to hear from the Lord and to be able to express our worship of God. Ministers of music are ordained by God to lead us in the service of song as we gather for worship.(I Chronicles 6:31) King David, a musician himself, appointed the first ministers of music from the time the ark came to rest in Jerusalem. God has been gifting people and setting them apart for this ministry ever since. What a blessing they have been to so many people!

Think about the role music has played in your walk with the Lord and your worship. Some people use worship as a part of their "unhurried time" with the Lord each day. Many of us saturate our minds with the Word of God by listening to Christian music all day long. Music is not worship, but it leads us in our worship of God each Lord's Day and at other times, when we gather to give Him praise and worship. Music is even a way to memorize Scripture by setting the Bible to a tune.

I know our church family at North Henry Baptist Church is blessed beyond measure by those who prepare and lead us in our music. Jacque Lederman, our worship coordinator, Lee Sledge, our worship leader, the members of our worship team and choir, along with everyone else who uses his or her skills to lift praises to the Lord and lead us to His throne are such a tremendous part of our ministry. I know you can say the same thing for those who lead the music in your church family. Let's make sure and give them all of the honor they deserve for being faithful to the Lord in this vital ministry.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 8-10.
