Believing is Acting on What God has Said
I remember hearing Henry Blackaby say that what we do next after God has spoken to us shows if we really trust Him or not. If we do believe Him, we will act upon what he said, so that we live like we know what He said will happen. That is just what King Jehoshaphat called on the people of Judah to do, and God honored his faith in an amazing way.(II Chronicles 20:20)
When a huge enemy came against Judah, King Jehoshaphat called the people to prayer. As the people stood before the Lord in worship, the Spirit came upon Jahaziel, one of the worship leaders, and he spoke out God's word, as a prophet. In short, he told them that they would not need to fight this battle, but the Lord would fight for them. He told them to just stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. Then, Jehoshaphat acted on God's word through this prophet. He put the choir singing praises in front of the army. He did not do this because God honors praise, even though that is true. He did it to act upon God's word, and to show God that they trusted Him and His prophet. The enemies killed themselves before the people of Judah arrived at the battle, so all they had to do was pick up the spoils.
Let's learn this lesson well. Next time God speaks to us in His Word, or any time we hear from Him directly, let's act upon that word in such a way to show Him and others that we trust Him completely. It will not only please God, it will be a fantastic testimony to those around us who need to know the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 22-24.
