Sacrificial Worship

I have written a lot about worship being an action in which we participate, not something we watch. However, there is another element of worship we need to know. Worship is showing our faith and trust in God. We do that by sacrificing things of value to us to worship God. David knew this principle, and so should we.(II Samuel 24:24)

What do you give to God to show your devotion to Him? What does it cost you? There are several things that it should cost us each time we come before the Lord in worship. It costs us our time. Yes, it is a sacrifice to set aside the Lord's Day for worship. It costs us some of our time, but it shows God what He is worth to us. If we are willing to give of our time, of which we have a limited amount, He sees our love for Him is greater than our love for other people and things. Also, if we give our talents and gifts to worship God, it is costly. It takes time and effort to sing, play, or lead in worship in some other way, but it shows God how much we love Him, instead of being selfish to use our gifts and abilities for ourselves.

The main way that worship costs us is by giving the money God has given us. When we give our tithe, ten percent of our income, and our offerings for other needs, we are showing God that we trust Him to provide for our needs, and His will is more important to us than our physical pleasures and needs. If we will not give our money in faith, we do not really trust the Lord. Jesus said it best when He said that if we can't be trusted to honor God with money, how can God trust us with spiritual blessings.

I pray that we will all experience worship in Spirit and in truth this Lord's day and every day of the year. In reality, all we do flows out of our worship. If God doesn't mean enough to us to worship Him in a costly way, we will not do other things that He asks us to do either. All of life is worship, because everything we do shows God what he is worth to us, "worthship."

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 3-5.
