Accepting God's Decisions

Do you argue with God? Maybe you just disagree with His decisions with no argument. Both of these are the wrong way of living our lives. God can be trusted to make the right decisions. David knew that.(II Samuel 15:25,26) We need to be ready to accept His decisions in every instance in our lives, knowing that He knows our hearts, and He knows what is best.

There is no doubt that David failed when it came to dealing with his family situations. Part of the reason was his sin with Bathsheba. He could have been silent in the case of Amnon's sin against Tamar and Absalom's killing of his brother, Amnon, because he felt lacked integrity in this area, because everyone knew of his own failures. Whatever David was thinking, he should have taken action to correct Amnon. Perhaps, Absalom would not have killed his brother. Then, when he did bring Absalom back from his self-imposed exile, he should have met with him and worked things out. He did not. Therefore, Absalom felt rejected and began his quest to overthrow David and become king himself. This led to David leaving Jerusalem rather than battle with his son. In effect, David's sin and inaction brought on all of this.

However, David knew that God knew his heart, and God would do the right thing, even as he had messed up. He thought God might see his side, and he might find favor with Him. If he did not find that favor in God's eyes, he would accept his punishment. David did not make excuses. He just put himself in God's hands, knowing God would be fair and do the right thing. Of course, the best route in life is to do God's will. When we fail, though, there is no need to try to cover it up. We just admit that we failed and move on with the Lord to trust Him next time. That is what David did, and that is what we need to do, without arguing or doubting God's decisions.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 16-18.
