Holiness from the Womb to the Tomb
God had a very special plan for Samson's life. He instructed his parents to set him apart for Him, even before he was born. His mother was not to eat grapes or drink anything from grapes or eat anything unclean, either. In this way Samson could be holy from the womb to the tomb.(Judges 13:7) In reality, this is God's will for every one of us.
Just think of what it would be like for every child to be born to parents who love the Lord and love them, so much that they would dedicate themselves completely to the Lord and their children completely to Him. That is exactly God's will for all of us. I know a child can't be saved in the womb, but the Holy Spirit can come upon them like He did to John, the Baptist, while he was still inside his mother. Also, we think of how Hannah gave Samuel to the Lord, even before he was conceived. Then, she took him to serve with Eli until he met the Lord and served him all of his life. See what I mean. That is God's way. When we miss that, we miss His desire for us to be fully holy, as He is holy.
Children are a blessing from God. They are a heritage from Him. The least we can do is to acknowledge they belong to Him, not to us, and to give them to Him, as soon as they are born. All the while we recognize that the only way we can raise them well is to be totally dedicated to the Lord ourselves. Anyone who has raised a child knows the challenges that come for parent and child. We should never try to face them without the Lord's blessing and direction in all things.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 14-16.
