Blessings While in Bondage

God blessed Joseph when he was sold into slavery in Egypt. He found favor with Potiphar, and he was put in charge of his household. Then, his wife accused him falsely, so he was put in prison. He found favor with the keeper of the prison while he was there.(Genesis 39:21) God did not take Joseph out of slavery and prison immediately when he asked Him. God blessed him while he was in slavery and prison. We need to learn this truth.

Some people do not think God is blessing them, unless they get everything they want. They think that to be blessed by God, everything that is bad has to be changed to something that is good. They are wrong in this assumption, and Joseph's story shows us that. God sometimes leaves us in bondage, but he prospers us at the same time. This teaches us to be joyful and to trust Him, even when things are not going the way we want. It leads us not to be selfish.

Joseph continued to trust God through it all. He waited in prison longer than he should have had to wait. However, God was working His plan for Joseph's life. God's plan was better than anything Joseph would have asked for, so it was worth the wait. We need to be willing to wait on the Lord and live in His blessings while we are not in the best of circumstances.

Tomorrow, I intend to read genesis 41-43.
