Victory in Jesus
We always end up in victory when we know and follow Jesus Christ.(II Corinthians 2:14) I am sure that sounds impossible to some. However, that is God's promise to us, as believers. We need to take it seriously, as a promise and as a motivation to do His will.
Paul uses a wonderful word picture in this verse. The Roman army always had a parade after a victory. It was called a "Triumph." The victorious general led the parade riding a white horse. He was followed by his commanders and then, the troops. At the end of the procession came the defeated army. All along the way a specific incense was burned, so that the fragrance filled the city and everyone knew the Romans had been victorious. It was a beautiful smell to the victors, but it was the smell of the death to the enemies.
When we follow Christ, eventually we experience the "triumph." It may be here or in heaven. However, most of the time God gives us the victory here, so that everyone can see the power of God working in and through us. It is a reason for believers to celebrate His victory, but to those who rebel against God, it is the smell of death. Our faithfulness is the key to victory and to being the right fragrance for the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Corinthians 3-5.
