Humble Service
The ways of Christ are the opposite of the ways of the world. The world says that we should strive for people to serve us because we are important and/or rich. Jesus said that we should be a slave and give ourselves to others, if we desire to be first.(Matthew 20:27,28) This is a good lesson for everyone.
Selfishness seeks to meet our needs by putting ourselves first. It may work for a while, but it is empty, and it drives people away. If a person is selfish, eventually, you don't want to be around them any more, because everything is about them. However, unselfishness is refreshing. It is wonderful to be around a person who cares more about you than they do about themselves. They are ready to serve you out of love and compassion.
Jesus is our example. If anyone ever deserved to be served, it was Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. However, He came to earth to serve everyone. He died a very cruel death, so everyone could be saved. He served children and adults, religious people and non-religious people. He came for us, not for Himself. We are to take His example and translate it into action in our own lives. Then, we will see the great rewards of living life as it was designed to be lived by the One who created us. I highly recommend a life of humble service. There is nothing like it.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 21-23.
